This Week in NewLife Kids

I Will Tell the Truth

This Week’s Bible Verse: “Truthful words stand the test of time, but lies are soon exposed.” Proverbs 12:19 (NLT)

This Week’s Main Point: I Will Tell The Truth!

This Week’s EXCLUSIVE: Peter Denies Jesus, Mark 14:66-72, Luke 22:55-62

Family Activity:
Get a stack of note cards. Have each family member write “truth” on five cards and “lie” on one card. Put all the cards together and shuffle them. Then sit as a family where each person can reach the stack of cards in the middle. Each person turns over one card. If the card is a lie all will try to be the first to slap the lie card. The last person to slap has to take the lie card and any cards underneath it. The goal of the game is to end up with the fewest cards. After the game, discuss that none of the lies went by unnoticed. Also discuss that as each card was flipped over, everyone was tense and watching, because they knew it might be a lie. Tell your family that just like in the game, lies hardly ever go unnoticed. You will almost always get caught. Tell them that just like everyone was tense and watching the deck because a lie could come up at any time, people will become tense and watchful around you if you get a reputation for lying. Lies will always bring more trouble than they are worth. That is why we should always tell the truth.

Main Point: I Will Tell The Truth!

Bible Story: Peter lies about knowing Jesus - Mark 14:66-72 (NLT)

Bible Verse: “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 (NLT)

Family Activity - Truth Ball Pass
To help your family remember that it’s important to tell the truth, play a game where everyone must tell the truth. Get a ball and have one person pass it to another person. Before the ball gets to the second person, he she must say something true about the person passing the ball. Be prepared to help your family members with some truths. For example: You help me with the dishes when I ask. You have a nice smile.
After you have played the game for awhile. Ask each person how it felt to hear something true about themselves. When we hear things that are true, we feel good. It’s the same when we say things that are true. Remind your family to always tell the truth because great leaders are known for their honesty. Pray together and ask God to help you always tell the truth.
