This Week In NewLife Kids

Elementary

Main Point: I Will Keep On Praying!
Bible Verse: “Never stop praying.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NLT)
Bible Story: Nehemiah prays to God for help. (Nehemiah 1-2:8)

Main Point Review Activity:

Stand in a circle with your family. Have each family member share one prayer request with the family. After each request is shared, have the whole family say the Main Point together. When you are finished, write the Main Point on a piece of paper with all of the prayer requests under it. Pray as a family for each request. Post the paper up in your home as a reminder to keep praying for those specific requests.

Try This!

Nehemiah spent many days praying. Even when God answered
Nehemiah’s prayer, Nehemiah continued to pray. God wants us to
pray and never stop praying!

• This week, have each family member write down prayer requests on slips of paper and place them in a basket.

• Select a time to pray together as a family daily.

• Have each family member pull out two slips of paper and pray specifically for those two prayer requests.

• Take turns praying together as a family for all of the requests. When your family is finished praying, put the slips back into the basket.

• When God answers one of the prayer requests, write the answer, and how you can keep praying for the situation, on the back of the slip of paper. Place it back into the basket so that the family can keep on praying!

Pre-K and Toddlers

Main Point: I Will Pray When I Am Afraid!
Bible Story: Jesus and Peter walking on water (Matthew 14:22-33)
Bible Verse: “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good.” Galatians 6:9a (NLT)

Family Activity

Don’t Be Afraid To Pray. Gather your family together one morning to explain how to do this activity. Write the words “Did I scare you?” on a piece of paper. The person who has this paper will be the “Scarer” and can scare someone in the family. For example: You can walk up behind someone and tap them on the shoulder. Or you could hide behind a chair and jump put when someone walks into the room. Once the “Scarer” has scared someone, he or she should take time to pray with the person who was scared. The new “Scarer” will be the person who was scared. Continue the game until everyone has been scared and has had a chance to scare someone.
At dinner that night, talk about how it felt to be scared and how praying made each person feel. Remind your family to pray when they are afraid. Talk about some of those times. Wrap up by praying that God will help everyone in the family remember to pray when afraid.
