Ministry Opportunities

NewLife Kids has two ministry opportunities at this time.

1)  We have been blessed by babies being born to our NewLife family.  With this blessing comes an opportunity to minister to these families by volunteering in our infant nursery.  Each and every Sunday morning we have one or two volunteers in our nursery.  We would love to have you become a part of this ministry.

In Luke, chapter 18:15-17 it says: One day some parents brought their little children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But when the disciples saw this, they scolded the parents for bothering him. Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”   NewLife Kids is built on this scripture about Jesus calling children to come to Him and learn of His ways.  In order to do this we need volunteers who love God and in turn love people and are willing to give one Sunday a month to minister to our youngest children.  Please contact debbie@newlifewired.com

2)  We also have a great group of NewLife Kids that spend extra time at NewLife each and every Sunday.  They are the children of our faithful volunteers.  Some of them arrive at NewLife around 8 am each week.  For some time we have had a Pre-Service Ministry that runs from 9:15 to 10:00 am each and every week.  This is a time that we play games, do crafts, sing songs, talk about important life events and always show the kids how important they are and how loved they are.  NewLife Kids mission is to show kids God’s love and help them love church.  These are our future volunteers and leaders and this is a time to instill that love in  their lives.  There is an opportunity for you to minister to these children and still attend service every Sunday.  Please contact debbie@newlifewired.com

This Week In NewLife Kids

Port of Call – Elementary

Main Point:  I Will Use My Time Wisely To Do What
Is Right!

Bible Verse: “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.” Ephesians 5:15-16 (NLT)

Bible Lesson:  Paul preaches while under house arrest - Acts 28:17-31

Family Activity:  Time Eater
Make a time journal for each family member for the first two days of the week. Take note of the one leisure activity that each person spends the most time doing. (Homework doesn’t count.) This activity is that person’s Time Eater. It might be video games for one person, reading for another, and TV for some one else. The remaining days of the week, have the entire family cut their Time Eater activities by 25-50 %. For example, if Dad’s Time Eater is two hours of sports programs each night, have him cut that amount to one hour. If a child’s Time Eater is playing one hour of video games every night, cut it to one-half hour. Agree as a family that you will replace the time spent on your Time Eater with reading the Bible, praying, watching Elevate At Home videos, memorizing Bible Verses, doing nice things for friends or family members, or inviting friends to church. When you replace Time Eaters with these things, you are using your time more wisely.

Port of Call – Pre-K and Toddlers

Main Point:  I Will Thank God For Everything

Bible Verse “You must be careful to obey all the commands of the Lord your God, following his instructions in every detail.”  Deuteronomy 5:32b (NLT)

Bible Story:
Noah thanked God by worshiping and giving sacrifices to God. - Genesis 8:18-9:17

We need to thank God for everything we have.
1. Ask your family to think of some things they have (shoes, clothes, a bed, a place to live, friends, food) and write each of those things on a piece of paper and put them in a bowl.
2. At each meal, pull one of those papers out of the bowl. Take time to thank God for that thing you have.
Remember to be like Noah and thank God for all the things you have.

This Week in NewLife Kids

Port of Call – Elementary

Main Point:  I Will Show Kindness To Everyone!

Bible Verse: We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love.” 2 Corinthians 6:6 (NLT)

Bible Lesson:  Paul shipwrecked on Malta - Acts 27-28

Family Activity:  Loving Kindness
Write some kind actions on small pieces of paper and put them in a container. Draw a heart on paper and tape it to the outside of the container. Some suggested actions are: get someone a drink of water, put away someone’s clothes, help carry something heavy, compliment someone’s hair, compliment someone’s clothes, share a treat with someone.
Have the family play a game of charades with these actions as the clues. One person draws the clue and acts it out. When the rest of the family guesses the action, a new person gets to draw a clue.
Point out to your family that the kind actions in the game came from the container with the heart on it. Kind actions show love to others. Tell your family that in life, our kind actions can show God’s love to people. That is why it is so important that we treat people with kindness. Kindness shows people God’s love and opens a door for us to share with them about God and invite them to church.

Port of Call – Pre-K and Toddlers

Main Point:  I Will Obey Right Away

Bible Verse: “You must be careful to obey all the commands of the Lord your God, following his instructions in every detail.”  Deuteronomy 5:32b (NLT)

Bible Story: Noah leaves the ark. - Genesis 8:13-18

Play a game with your children to help them see the benefits of obeying right away.
1. Play a game of Simon Says. Instead of saying “Simon,” you can say, “Mommy” or “Daddy”.
2. Prior to playing, explain that the first person to obey what Mommy or Daddy says will get a check mark next to their name on a piece of paper. When a player gets ten check marks, you can give them a ticket that can be redeemed for rewards after the game. You can give the children extra reading time or game time for obeying right away. You could also give them an extra treat after dinner that night for obeying right away.
3. Pray together, thanking God for reminding your family that it’s always good to obey right away and ask Him to help you remember to obey right away every time.
You can pull out this game again anytime your children need a reminder of the benefits of quick obedience.

See you next Sunday!

This Week in NewLife Kids

Port of Call - Elementary

Main Point:  I WILL BE PERSISTANT IN ALL I DO!

Bible Verse:  “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NLT)

Bible Lesson:  Paul in Corinth - Acts 18:1-11

Family Activity:  In The Cards

Gather two decks of standard playing cards. Shuffle one deck and lay all fifty-two cards out, face down. Make sure no one can see the cards as you lay them down. Shuffle the second deck and have each family member draw a card. Then family members will look through the cards that are face down to find the match for the cards they have drawn. While looking, they can not scatter the cards, but must carefully turn over each card, and then turn it back over if it does not match. All family members go at the same time. See who can find a match the fastest.

After playing, discuss that while there was a match for every card, sometimes it took a long time to find it. Tell your family that just like not every card you turned over was a match, not every person we invite to church or tell about Jesus will listen. But just like in the game where we persistently kept searching for a match, we should persistently search for people who will listen to the message about God. Point out to your family that there are fifty-two cards in the deck and fifty-two weeks in a year. Commit as a family to ask one person to come to church or talk to one person about Jesus each week this year.

Port of Call Jr. - Pre-K and Toddlers

Main Point:  I Will Be Patient

Bible Verse:  “You must be careful to obey all the commands of the Lord your God, following his instructions in every detail.” Deuteronomy 5:32b (NLT)

Bible Story: Noah waited before leaving the ark. - Genesis 8:2-13

Family Activity:To demonstrate patience, do the following activity with your family.

1. Sit everyone down at the table and tell them they can have a marshmallow now. Or they can wait two minutes and have an Oreo (or choose another snack that your children would want more than the marshmallow).

2. At the end of those two minutes, you can either go ahead and give them the Oreo or extend the activity. For example: You can have an Oreo now or wait another two minutes, and have a bowl of ice cream.

3. At the end of the activity, talk to your family about how it felt to have patience. You can ask the following questions:

“Was it hard to wait for the better snack?”

“If you had not waited, and had taken the marshmallow I first offered you, do you think you would have felt bad to see the other family members eating an Oreo?”

If we had not waited, we would have eaten the marshmallow. But because we waited, we were able to have an even better treat. When we wait, things will turn out better for us. Take time to pray, asking God to help each family member have patience this week.
