Power UP - Elementary

Main Point: I Will Be Humble!
Give each family member a bowl of dry alphabet noodles or cereal. Work together and find all the letters in order to spell out the words “I Will Be Humble!”
Bible Verse: “But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Matthew 23:12 (NLT)
Bible Story: King Uzziah enters the Temple. (2 Chronicles 26)

Family Activity: Humble Cookies
King Uzziah was very proud of himself and his abilities and he thought he didn’t have to obey God’s rules. He thought too much of himself and his abilities. God wants us to be humble and realize our abilities come from Him and we should use them to help others. Bake cookies together as a family. On the bottom side of each cookie, use icing to write one ability or strength you can think of that God has given you. Then, squish the icing side of two cookies together to make a Humble Cookie Sandwich. Place each family member’s cookies into a separate plastic sandwich bag. We could have written our abilities on the top of the cookies to brag about them, but God does not want us to brag about our abilities. Instead, we should use our abilities to worship Him and bless others. These cookies will be twice as delicious because they are stuck together with the icing we used on the bottom of the cookies. Have each family member share his or her cookies with another family member or a friend by giving his or her bag of cookies away.

Bible Story: Mary’s gift to Jesus (John 12:1-8)
Bible Verse: “Do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight, so all will go well with you.” Deuteronomy 6:18a (NLT)

Family Activity Gifts To Give
Mary gave Jesus a very special gift. God wants us to give to others, too.
This week, work together as a family and make a list of some items you have that others might need. Walk through the house with your children and help him or her point out different items to put on the list. Decide on one of those things to give to someone else who needs it and give it to him or her.
Encourage your children to give to others just as Mary gave her own special gift to Jesus. God wants us to share and give to others with a
happy heart.
