Main Point: I will treat other people the way God wants me to treat them!
Play a game of telephone as a family using the Main Point. Sit in a line as a family. The first person in line should whisper the Main Point to the next person and pass it down the line. The last person in line says it out loud. Repeat the process until the last person in line says it out loud correctly.
Bible Verse: “Respect everyone, and love your Christian brothers and sisters.” 1 Peter 2:17a NLT
Read the Bible Story together: Elisha and the bears(2 Kings 2:19-25)
Ask your child if the boys in the Bible story showed Elisha respect. What could they have done differently to show respect to Elisha?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING
We at NewLife Kids want to wish each of you a very Happy Thanksgiving. We also want to let you know that we are thankful for each child that attends NewLife Kids each and every week. We are so thankful for the awesome parents that are leading their children in the ways of God by having them in church each week.
God's word says in Proverbs 22:6: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
See you Sunday!!

Continue Reading the Book of Mark
Just a reminder to continue reading the Book of Mark with your child. This week we are reading Chapters 5 and 6. Take time to discuss what you are reading with your child. During your reading talk about the fact that Jesus healed people and feed five thousand people with just 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread. Use this time together to discuss what Jesus means to you.

Confidence:
Main Point: When I am obedient to God, I know He will be with me in whatever I do!
Write the Main Point on a piece of paper. Say the Main Point together as a family. Repeat it but cover up one word of the Main Point. Continue this process until each family member can say the Main Point with all the words covered up.
Bible Verse: “So we can say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?’” Hebrews 13:6 NLT
Read the Bible Story together: Gideon’s rise to leadership. (Judges 6-Judges 7) Ask your child if there is anything in their life that makes them nervous or scared. Why?
Obedience Is Best
Tell your child about a time in your life when you were nervous or scared to do something. How did you get past your nervousness and find confidence to do what you needed to do? Remind your child that, as Christ Followers, you are never alone. Just as Gideon obeyed God and had God on his side, we too, have God on our side when we obey Him. We can be confident that we are not alone in our life. On a piece of paper, write down a situation that is happening in your child’s life. Encourage your child to think of ways they can have confidence in the situation. Write the ways down on the piece of paper. Post the paper up somewhere in your home to remind your child how they can have confidence in the situation while they go through it.

I Will Help!
Bible Verse: Ecclesiastes 4:9 (NLT) - “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.”
Bible Story: The deacons are appointed to minister to the people.
Sunday, your child learned to be a good helper. They learned the importance of being kind and helping others when they see a need. This week, take a drive or go on a bike ride as a family. While you are out together, pay special attention to your neighborhood and those who live there with you. As you see needs around you, make a list and then decide as a family how you can help. Maybe a neighbor needs help with their yard work, or maybe your local park needs help getting litter picked up. Whatever the needs are that you find, work together as a family to help others and make a difference. By being an helpful example, you will encourage your child to help whenever they find a need!

More on Self-Respect
Main Point: Self-Respect - I will take care of my body because God gave it to me.
Bible Story: Daniel chooses good foods. (Daniel 1)
Bible Verse: “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19 & 20 NLT
Read Daniel 1. “It’s just too hard to find healthy food.” “I just don’t have time to cook.” “I’m on a see food diet - everything I see, I eat.” Many of us treat food and eating as if we are held prisoner to the fast-food culture around us. But Daniel actually was held prisoner! And he managed to find a way to honor God with what he ate. Scripture doesn’t fill us in on the details of why Daniel found the food “unacceptable.” (Verse 8) It could be that the food had been sacrificed to idols and used in the worship of Babylonian gods. It could be that it violated Jewish dietary laws. It could be that it was simply unhealthy. The point is that Daniel knew that by eating the food, he would be defiled and dishonor God. Today we live in a shifting sea of fitness guidelines. The super-food of one decade, is the health-risk of another. Daniel wasn’t concerned with following the dietary fads of the world, but he was concerned with honoring God with what he ate. We should follow Daniel’s example.
Read 1 Corinthians 10:31. What you eat and drink affects your body. Your body is a gift from God and you honor Him by taking care of it. Are there foods in your diet that you need to declare “unacceptable” as Daniel did? Make the choices you need to make to honor God in what you eat and how you take care of your body.

Choosing Good Food
One of the ways we can take care of our bodies is by eating healthy foods. This is important because God made us and gave us our bodies. Pick one thing to eliminate from your diet this week as a family. You could give up candy, dessert, or soda. Work together as a family to stay away from that food item all week! Find some healthy alternatives you could enjoy together as a family instead. Maybe instead of eating dessert, your family could go on an after dinner walk together. Whatever you choose to do together, remember to emphasize the importance of taking care of the bodies God gave us!

I Will Use Good Words!
Words have the ability to hurt or heal. Sunday, your child learned about using good words. As a family, work together this week to use kind words with each other. When you hear your child using good words, make sure to praise them and tell them what a good job they are doing. You might play the opposite game as a family. Each person should take a turn and say a word that might not be kind. Another person should say the opposite word that would be a better choice. For example, you might say, “I don’t like this food.” Then have your child say something good such as, “This is tasty food! Thanks, Mom!” This is a great activity to play during dinner when you are all sitting around the table together. Learning to use good words is important and can be fun!

Earn Your Black Belt
As you know we started a new series called Dojo. Parents you can help your child earn his black belt by attending NewLife Kids every Sunday during this series. At the Dojo students train and work to achieve different colored belts. They are learning the importance of discipline, self-respect, confidence, respect for others, endurance, integrity, loyalty, and leadership. Every 2 weeks students will earn the next color belt. By the end in January, hopefully, they will have achieved their black belt.
Hope to see you in NewLife Kids.
The first belt is WHITE. (They receive this on their first Sunday at the Dojo)
The second belt is YELLOW.
The third belt is GREEN.
The fourth belt is BLUE.
The last belt is BLACK.

Getting Into Mark
NewLife Kids has challenged all their school-aged kids and parents to read the book of Mark together throughout an eight-week span. If you'd like to join us & haven't received the reading plan, please email debbie@newlifewired.com or andrea@newlifewired.com, and we'll be happy to get you one. It's a perfect time to jump in!
As you read with your kids, here are a few things you may want to take note of and discuss:
Mark is one of the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke & John). Gospel means "good news." The Good News is Jesus Christ!
This is the shortest of the four gospels, and it portrays Jesus on the move. Notice as you read through how He's active and instantly responsive to the Father's will.
Did you notice in Chapter 1 that Jesus chose ordinary people to be His disciples? That's because he doesn't need highly trained people to do His work. He wants to use everyone! That includes you, us and the kids. We just have to follow Him and be obedient, and great things will happen!
We hope you enjoy reading through the book of Mark with your family. We'd love to hear how it's impacted you and what you've discovered. During the reading of this book, please send us a email or grab Debbie or a teacher to let us know your story.
See you tomorrow!

More on Discipline
Main Point: Discipline - I will spend time every day doing the things that God wants me to do.
Bible Story: Life of Paul. (1 Cor. 9:24-27 - run the race to win, train like
an athlete)
Bible Verse: “All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.” 1 Corinthians 9:25 NLT
Read 1 Corinthians 9:24-27. Running is simple. You just keep putting one foot in front of the other. You can run barefoot, or in high-tech footgear. You can run indoors or in the elements. You can run on a path or across the wilderness. The size of your stride may be short or long. The tempo of your steps may be quick or relaxed. The speed of your progress may be slow and steady, or an all out sprint. These are just variables in technique. The basic discipline of running is just putting one foot in front of the other, over and over. Our spiritual life is not that different. The basic disciplines are reading the Bible daily, praying, and worshiping together as a church. When we stop doing that, we have stopped running the race and started observing the sport. Don’t be an observer, be a runner! Putting one foot in front of the other is not always easy. It is not supposed to be easy. Some days your faith may be so strong that it is like an all out sprint and you feel like you are flying high on spiritual adrenaline. But other days will feel like the end of a hundred mile run in the desert where your body is exhausted and your feet are swollen and blistered. But no matter how it feels, runners run. And no matter how we feel, as disciples, we must discipline ourselves to read, pray, and worship regularly. Keep putting one foot in front of the other toward the prize of heaven.

Running The Race
Discipline is needed in order to mature in everything we do during our lives, including our Christian walk. You have to be willing to put in the work and training involved to become the best you can be. Tell your child of a time in your life when you had to be disciplined. Explain what happened because of your choice to have discipline. This week, as a family, choose one area to be disciplined in together. You could decide to do a nightly Bible reading together, or you might decide to serve others in need together. Go on a walk through your neighborhood and find someone to serve. Remind your child that God wants them to be disciplined by reading the Bible and serving others.
Pre-K & Toddlers - DOJO JR
Lesson 1: I Will Wait!
Today, your child learned about waiting. They learned how important it is to have patience. This week, play a game called “Wait and Go” as a family. Have the family line up on one side of a room or on one side of your backyard. The Leader should stand in the middle of the area. When the leader says Go, everyone should start running to the opposite side. When the leader says Wait, the runners should stop and wait. The winner is the person who goes to the opposite side and back to the leader in the middle first! Encourage your child by talking about what it feels like to have to wait and how that helps us have patience.

Mark your way through Mark
Application Activity for Discipline
Purpose:This activity will give the children an opportunity to practice the discipline of reading the Bible and praying regularly during the eight weeks of Dojo.
Description:This past Sunday the children were given a challenge to read the Gospel of Mark over the eight weeks of Dojo. They can do this with the help of their parents by reading two chapters a week. We will be teaching the first four lessons of Dojo during the month of November and we will resume the final four lessons of Dojo during the month of January. We took time Sunday to introduce this activity to the kids by giving them a bookmark and showing them where the book of Mark is located in their bible.
Discipline is something you build on a little bit every day. It may seem hard to read a whole book of the Bible, but through discipline, you can do it a little bit at a time. If you read just a little bit each day, you can read the whole book of Mark by the time we finish our Dojo Series. Hopefully by that time the discipline of reading the bible to learn more about God will become a habit for your family.
The Book of Mark
Start Date November 7
November 7 – 13 read Chapter 1 & Chapter 2
November 14 - 20 read Chapter 3 & Chapter 4
November 21 - 27 read Chapter 5 & Chapter 6
November 28 – Dec 4 read Chapter 7 & Chapter 8
Start again January 2
January 2 – 8 read Chapter 9 & Chapter 10
January 9 - 15 read Chapter 11 & Chapter 12
January 16 - 22 read Chapter 13 & Chapter 14
January 23 - 29 read Chapter 15 & Chapter 16

NewLife Kids will be updating this site regularly to let parents know what is happening in NewLife Kids. These are a few of the things you'll find:
- games or activities
- family devotionals
- parenting tips or tricks
- photos of our kids in action
Our goal at NewLife Kids is not only to teach the children each week but to be able to help families with resources to teach and reinforce each lesson. Take time each week to talk to your kids about what they learned while at church. They may say nothing, but I can guarantee that they are hearing about God each week, so don't give up getting them to talk about it. As parents and grandparents, if we can get our kids to openly talk about Jesus with us, it will make it easier when God asks them to talk about Jesus with their friends. Our goal should be to make the name of Jesus famous, and how can we if we don't talk about Him or what He means to us?
~Debbie~
If you ever have any questions at all concerning NewLife Kids please contact me: Debbie Nicewonger at debbie@newlifewired.com or 817-723-3481.
Also if you would like to check out what it would be like to volunteer in NewLife Kids please contact me, and we will arrange for you to join a service to check us out. There are always openings for you to get involved in NewLife Kids. We would love to have you join us!!

Fun Day at NewLife Kids!
This past Sunday was Fun Day at NewLife Kids. Here's a little sample of what we got to do....
