Main Point: Listen And Obey And On Solid Ground You’ll Stay!

Make up hand motions to help you and your child remember the Main Point. Have your family members say the Main Point imitating the voices of their favorite actors or actresses.

Bible Story: The Wise and Foolish Builders. Matthew 7:24-29

Firm Foundation

Gather your family near a bed or a large sofa with large cushions. Challenge one member of your family to try to balance on one foot standing on the bed or sofa. Then have the other family members use their hands to bounce and push down on the cushions to make the person standing lose his or her balance. Make it clear that no one can touch the person who is balancing. They can only touch the bed or sofa cushion they are standing on. Be ready to help catch the person who falls. After everyone has tried it, do the same thing with the person trying to balance on the floor. Have everyone else try to hit and stomp on the floor, but make sure that they don’t touch the person balancing. Talk to your family about how it was easier to balance on the firm foundation. When we listen to God’s Word and do what it says, our lives are on a firm foundation and even when the storms come, we can still stand. But if we listen to God’s Word and don’t do what it says, our lives will be as shaky as trying to balance on the bouncing bed or cushions.

Bible Verse: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding."  Proverbs 3:5 (NLT)
Bible Story:
The Parable of the Sower and the Four Soils. Mark 4:1-20

Through The HoopHang a hula hoop from a tree or garage door or even in a doorway inside your house. Hang it so that the top of the hula hoop is approximately at your shoulders. Get a ball that your child can throw and you can catch. A foam ball, a football, a baseball, or any other kind of ball will work. Have your family stand on the other side of the hoop from you. Have them take turns trying to throw the ball to you through the hoop. Talk about how, if the ball comes through the hoop, it should be easy for you to catch because it is close to you. If the ball doesn’t go through the hoop, it is much harder for you to catch. Tell your family that when they throw through the hoop, they are doing their best to throw you the ball. Remind your family that God wants us to keep telling the people around us about Jesus in the best way that we can. That is like putting the ball through the hoop. When we tell people about Jesus, not everyone will "catch it." God doesn’t expect us to make people follow Jesus, but He does expect us to do our best to tell them about Jesus. Remind your family that one of the best ways to put the ball through the hoop in telling people about Jesus is to invite them to church. As a family think of some people that you could invite to church and make a plan to do it.

Make up hand motions to help you and your child remember the main point:  Give Your Best and Let God Do the Rest.  Have each member of the family say one word of the main point at a time until together you have reapeated the whole main point five times.

See you next Sunday!!

This Week in NewLife Kids

Family Activities

Make up hand motions to help you and your child remember the Main Point: Forgiveness God Does Not Lack, To Him You Can Always Go Back! Say the Main Point while hopping on one foot once for each word.

Bible Story: The Lost Son. Luke 15:11-24
Bible Verse: "Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away"
                                Acts 3:19  NLT

Back Track

Get a toy or game with multiple parts that can come apart. For younger children it could be a simple ten or twelve piece puzzle, for older children or the whole family use a set of interlocking blocks or a set of construction toys. Take a walk with your family through the house and drop pieces of the toy as you go. After dropping some pieces, talk about times that you have disobeyed God. Have each family member think back and tell about a time that they broke a rule or disobeyed. As you tell about each time keep walking and dropping pieces. When you have run out of pieces, have the family follow the trail of dropped pieces back to where you started. Work as a family to put the toy back together. As you work, remind them of the Bible Story about the son who returned to his father. Tell your family that when we come back to God, He forgives us but our lives might not be exactly the same. But with God’s love and forgiveness, we can start to put our life back together, just like we put this toy back together. When we turn back to God, it doesn’t matter how far we have gone, or how many sins we have dropped along the way; God will forgive them all when we come back to Him.

This Week in NewLife Kids

Upsidedown Town

Make up hand motions to help you and your child remember the Main Point:
The Right Way To Live is To Forgive!
Sing the Main Point to the tune of one of your child’s favorite songs.
Bible Story: The parable of the unmerciful servant.
Matthew 18:21-35
Family Activity: Carry The Weight
Get a back pack and a lot of heavy books. Have one member of your family wear the back pack and the other members of your family hold the books. Have the person wearing the backpack run around the house or around the room and time them. Then have each family member tell about a time that someone hurt their feelings or made them mad. For each time add one of the books to the back pack. Then have the person with the back pack run again. Keep repeating until the person is too tired to run anymore. Ask them if it was easier to run with the empty backpack or the full backpack. Remind your family that when we don’t forgive, it is like adding a heavy book to the backpack. Our lives can be weighed down by bitterness and unforgiveness. Have a group prayer time where your family prays, asking God to help you forgive the people that you mentioned in
the game.
