Taking Risks to Help Others
I hope everyone is really getting into the book of Esther this week. It's full of suspense, and it's awesome to see God's perfect plan unfold in this story. Esther's story is also a wonderful example of a woman taking a big risk to help others!
After the date and time had been set for all the Jews in King Xerxes' kingdom to be destroyed, Queen Esther is petitioned by her cousin and adopted father to approach the king. Mordecai tells her to beg the king for his mercy and plead for her people. This was dangerous for two reasons:
1) The punnishment for approaching the king without a summons could be death!
2) King Xerxes had no idea his queen was a Jew. Esther would have to reveal that she, too, was set to be destroyed!
We see her couragous decision in verse 16:
“... though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die.”
Esther made a decision to try to help her people, even though she risked her own life to do it!
God wants us to help people (see Luke 3:11). Now God may never ask us to risk as much as Esther, but often times helping people DOES require us to risk something. It might be time, safety, money or comfort. Regardless of what we risk, we should choose to obey God. In those times we should choose to have an attitude like Esther's!

Helping Others & Praying For My Needs

Lesson Goal: The children will learn that we should help people in need, even if it means risking our own comfort and safety.

Main Point: I Will Take A Risk to Help Others!
Bible Verse: John replied, "If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry." (Luke 3:11b NLT)
Parents: The best way to teach your kids the importance of helping others is to help others! Let your kids see you serving at your local church, donating to a charity, and helping your neighbors, friends, and family! Give your kids examples of how your family has helped others in the past, and let them know the risks you take to do it (time, money, safety, comfort).
A great opportunity to help others in the local community is coming up in the Life Impact Garage Sale on Sat., April 9th. We're taking donations, and would love for you to come out and volunteer. Email tiffany@newlifewired.com for more information!

Acting in Faith
As you and your children read Matthew 9 this week, you'll notice that it's filled with stories of people acting in faith of what they knew Jesus could do.
*The paralytic man's friends carried him up to the roof and lowered him down to Jesus for mercy and healing! (v. 1-8 & also see Mark 2:1-12 - same man!).
*Matthew the tax collecter immediately rose and followed Jesus when called (v. 9)
*A man came and asked Him to resurrect his daughter (v. 18-26)
*The sick woman reaching out to touch His robe (v. 20-22)
*The blind men asking for sight (v.27-31)
*The demon-posessed man brought to Him (v. 32-33)
God wants us to act on our faith (see James 2:14-18). One of the main ways we can do this is just by doing what God wants us to do. Sometimes it's easy and fun (honoring your parents when they say you're going to Six Flags). Sometimes it can be hard (being nice to someone who is always mean to you). God loves us more than we can even understand, so we can take comfort in knowing that whatever He asks us to do is the best choice for us. We also know that when we follow Jesus and obey His commands we are pleasing God - and that produces joy & peace in us!
So how do we learn what God wants us to do? Here are four simple ways:
*Read the Bible - It's God's instructions for our lives!
*Pray - who better to talk to than Him? He'll always lead us in the right direction!
*Talk to people who follow Jesus - they can help us figure out what is right!
*Go to church - every week we learn about God and who He wants us to be!
Have fun reading this week & discovering more about God! See you Sunday!
