This Week in NewLife Kids

Big Game Show – Elementary

MAIN POINT:  I Will Pray And Ask For Help!

BIBLE LESSON:  Nehemiah’s Prayer - Nehemiah 1 and 2

BIBLE VERSE:  “As for me, I look to the LORD for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me.” Micah 7:7 (NLT)

Family Activity

Help is available to us when we pray. Help your family make a habit of praying by making a personalized family prayer acrostic. Use construction paper or other means to make an image of each letter in the word, pray. Assign your own words and meanings to each letter. Some suggestions are below with suggested explanations. Explain what each word means and how that reminds us about prayer. Make a time when you meet together as a family to pray (other than at meals.) Meet at the prayer acrostic and pray together.

P- Powerful: Prayer is powerful because God is powerful. Place: We can pray in a special place or anywhere. Private: We can tell God anything. Please: We can ask God to help us.

R- Remember: Writing down what we ask will help us remember when God answers our prayers. Request: No request is too big or too small to bring to God.

A- Anything: We pray to God about any problem we face. Anytime: We can pray to God at any moment we want. Anywhere: God can hear and help us no matter where we are. Assistance: God wants us to ask Him for help. Ask: We can ask God to help us with any problem.

Y- You: God hears your prayers. Yearn: We can ask God’s help with things we want very much. Yield: We agree to do what God wants as we pray to Him.

This Week in NewLife Kids

Big Game Show – Elementary

MAIN POINT:  I Will Focus On The Inside Instead Of The Outside

BIBLE LESSON:  Samuel Anoints David - 1 Samuel 16

BIBLE VERSE:  “The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7b (NLT)

Family Activity

Make some plain cupcakes with different flavored candies baked inside them. Have your children help you and then enjoy the cupcakes together.

Say to your child: “Although the cupcakes are the same on the outside, what is on the inside is what really matters. We should spend less time worried about our outward appearance and instead focus on the inside. That means flavoring our lives with good things that are pleasing to God. The thoughts, feelings, and actions in our hearts matter far more than outward appearance.”

Main Point: I Will Forgive Others!

Bible Lesson: Esau forgives Jacob - Genesis 33

Bible Verse: “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.” Ephesians 5:15 (NLT)

Family Activity

1. Give children something to hold that does not have rounded edges. (Suggestion: jagged rocks or sticks from the yard.)

2. Read the following to your children:

3. When someone hurts us, we might hold on to our anger and not forgive them. Squeeze the rock in your hand. How does that feel? (It pokes me. It hurts.) When we don’t forgive others, it hurts us and not them.

4. Have your children put the object down and say, “I Will Forgive Others!

Say: Just like holding on to the rock hurt your hand, holding on to anger will hurt you. When you forgive others, you will feel better!

NOTE to Parent:  Please help your child learn their bible verse for the week – if they know it from memory they will receive a prize each week.

This Week in NewLife Kids

Big Game Show – Elementary

MAIN POINT:  I Will Obey God!

BIBLE LESSON: The LORD Rejects Saul - 1 Samuel 15

BIBLE VERSE:  “For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight.”   Romans 2:13 (NLT)

Family Activity

Play a game that your children enjoy, but let them make up their own rules for the game. For example, they could add a rule to kickball saying that you have to count to ten before trying to tag them. The rules can be anything that they want. When you play the game, break the rules as much as possible. Especially break the special rules that your children make up. When they become upset and correct you for breaking the rules, stop the game. Ask your children about how they felt when you disobeyed the rules. Apologize for disobeying the rules and ask your children to forgive you. Tell your family that if the rules to a game are important to follow, imagine how much more important it is to follow God’s rules for life. Ask them how they think God feels when we disobey His rules. Tell them that God’s rules are there to make our lives the best they can be, and we make God happy when we obey them.

Big Game Show – Pre-K and Toddler

Bible Verse: “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.” Ephesians 5:15 (NLT)

Family Activity

1. String the beads on the string or yarn to spell out “I-M S-O-R-R-Y” OR Write the word “I-M S-O-R-R-Y” on the paper and decorate it.

2. Tie on the string bracelet or attach the paper using the stapler or glue.

good to say you are sorry when you hurt someone’s feelings.

This Week in NewLife Kids

Big Game Show – Elementary

MAIN POINT:  I Will Help Others!

BIBLE LESSON:  Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz - The Book of Ruth

BIBLE VERSE:  “And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.” Hebrews 13:16 (NLT)

Family Activity

You never know when the chance will come up to help others. Play a game this week to see who can help the most when they get the chance. Put a bell, a bicycle horn, or other noise-making device in a common place in the house. Decorate it if you wish and call it the Help Bell or Help Horn. Each time a family member is doing a chore this week, allow him or her to ask for help by ringing the Help Bell. The person who responds first can then help with the task. Keep track of how many times each person helps. Have a special reward at the end of the week for the family member who helps the most. We should always help someone when we have the chance.

Big Game Show – Pre-K and Toddler
