Big Game Show – Elementary

MAIN POINT:  God Will Help Me Do What He Wants Me To Do!

BIBLE LESSON: Moses and the Burning Bush - Exodus 3 and 4

BIBLE VERSE:  “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1:9 (NLT)

Family Activity

Have your children make a list of things that they know they will have to do this week. Things on the list might include doing their chores, doing their homework, inviting a friend to church, or practicing for sports, music, or dance. Tell your children that you will help them do one thing each day this week. Have them choose one of the things from the list each day and ask for your help with it. When they ask for help decide how you will help them. Help your children with what they need this week and remind them that when God wants us to do something He will help us do it.

This Week in NewLife Kds

Big Game Show – Elementary

MAIN POINT:  I Will Tell The Truth!

BIBLE LESSON: Jacob Deceives Isaac - Genesis 27

BIBLE VERSE:  “Don’t scheme against each other. Stop your love of telling lies that you swear are the truth. I hate all these things, says the LORD.” Zechariah 8:17 (NLT)

Family Activity

Make some chocolate chip cookies and also print out some pictures of chocolate chip cookies. (Or your family’s favorite cookie.) Put the picture cookies out on a plate and ask if anyone wants to eat a cookie. When no one does, bring out the real cookies. Ask them why no one wanted to eat the printed cookies. Talk about ways that the real cookies are like the truth and the printed cookies are like telling a lie. A few suggestions are below.

The paper cookies look good to eat, but are not. Lies might look good, but they are not.

The paper cookies won’t fool anyone for long. Lies might fool someone for a short time, but usually will be found out.

No one wanted to take a printed cookie. No one wants to be lied to, that is why we should tell the truth.

As you enjoy the cookies together, remind your children that we should always tell the truth. Just like getting a plate full of paper cookies would be a big disappointment, telling lies to others will be a big disappointment to them and to God. That is why it is important to always tell the truth.

Bible Verse: “People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.” Proverbs 14:29 (NLT)

Each letter stands for one of the steps to controlling anger.

Big Game Show – Elementary

Main Point:  I Will Resist Temptation!

Bible Lesson:  Adam, Eve, and the Serpent.  Genesis 3

Bible Verse: “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out s that you can endure.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT)

Family Activity
Tell your family that you have something special planned for those who can resist temptation. Place a bowl with one tempting thing in it for each family member. There should be one item for each member and it should be that family member’s favorite snack or candy. For example: if your daughter’s favorite treat is Skittles and your son’s favorite is Oreos, you would have an individual packet of Oreo s and an individual packet of Skittles, as well as tempting items for every member of the family, yourself included. Tell your family that they can eat the snack if they want, but that you have something better for them if they resist temptation. Leave the bowl out where all can access it, and check back on it periodically. Leave it out for a set amount of time: as short as an afternoon to as long as a few days. At whatever time you choose, call everyone back and see if any of the candy or snacks are missing. Prepare a special dessert, or some other reward for the family members who resisted temptation. Remind your family that just like you had something better in mind for them if they resisted temptation, God has something better in mind for us if we resist temptation. Something we are tempted to do always seems good, but if we resist temptation, we will find that God has something better for us.

Big Game Show – Pre-K and Toddler

Main Point:  I Will Be Patient!

Bible Lesson:  Esau loses his birthright - Genesis 25:19-34 (NLT)

Bible Verse:  So be careful how you live.  Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.  Ephesians 5:15 (NLT)

Leadership Trait:  Patience - Great leaders are willing to wait for what they want.

Family Activity

Supplies needed:        Roll of paper or paper sack, paint, paper plate, vegetables (potatoes, carrots, peas, green beans)

Adults: Cut the vegetables in half. Pour the paint onto paper plates.

1. Dip the vegetables in paint.

2. Make prints with the vegetables on the paper.

3. When the paint is dry, you can frame the paper or use it to wrap gifts.

Say: The Main Point for this week is I Will Be Patient! Just like you had to be patient and wait for the paint to dry, in life you will need to be patient, too. When you have to wait, remember to wait patiently.

Patience is probably the hardest lesson to learn.  Parents, if you are honest with yourself and your child, you are still working on this concept in your life.  Talk openly with your child about this and use everyday moments as teaching moments – even if it is at your expense.  Let your child know that you are not perfect but you are working on it with God’s help.

Additional Bible Verse:  But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”  James 1:4 (NKJV)

NOTE to Parent:  Please help your child learn their bible verse for the week – if they know it from memory they will receive a prize each week.
