Attention Parents

NewLife Kids is all about:
  • Showing Kids God's love.
  • Encourage kids to learn about Jesus
BUT we are also all about helping parents teach their children about God's love and helping them learn more about Jesus together as a family.  The greatest way to teach your children is by example.  What are you modeling in front of your children??

We must work together to raise up a generation that not only has head knowledge of Jesus Christ but also has heart knowledge and is disciplined in all God's commandments to us.  How do we do this??
Let's start out a few minutes each day to train and lead our children.  We have a new tool available to us as a church and as parents: LeadershipForKids.tv is a website where kids can watch streaming Leadership videos from the bible.  You can begin a bible plan, or teach by one of 47 leadership traits.

You can access a video as a teaching tool that you can watch together or your children can watch on any phone, tablet or computer you have available.  Each lesson also has an Activity PDF file that will help you to lead your children in applications that pertain to the lesson.  You can use this daily or divide over the week to instill God's word into your child's life.

Download the FREE App in the Apple Store or on Google Play for Android devices.         LeadershipForKids.tv App

On your computer you can go to www.leadershipforkids.tv  to register your account for a small fee $4 per month.  This allows unlimited access to all videos and can be used on any device that has the App downloaded.

Our Prayer is that kids will be able to connect what they have learned at church with what they learn and do at home.  God's word will soak into their hearts and help them become the leaders God designed them to be.  This resource will equip parents to lead and teach their children to apply God's word to their daily life.

Please join together with your church family to raise up the future generation to lead by Godly example in a world that needs strong leaders for Christ.

Encourage your child to bring his bible to Launch Team on Sunday, September 8th, at 10:30.  See you then!!

This Week in NewLife Kids

Altitude – Elementary

Main Point:  As A Follower Of Christ, I Will Do What Is Right No Matter What!

Bible Story:  Peter and John before the council.  (Acts 4:1-22, 5:17-42)

**Bible Verse: “God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.” Matthew 5:10 (NLT)

Family activity

Use objects around your house to design obstacle courses for each other. Some suggestions are to balance across some blocks, or crawl under a table or chair, or jump across a section of the floor that is marked off. Design a different course for each family member, making sure that it is challenging, but not too hard. Once all family members have run through at least one obstacle course, gather everyone together.

Discuss this with your family. When you run an obstacle course, you should not be surprised to see obstacles. When you ran this course, you did not stop just because there was an obstacle, you kept going. In our lives, when we are doing what is right, what God wants, there will always be obstacles because there will always be people who want us to do the wrong thing instead of following God. We should not be surprised by people who want us to do wrong, or by obstacles to doing the right thing. We would never just give up on an obstacle course just because there was an obstacle, and we should never give up following God, just because we face opposition. Read the Bible passage below with your family.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.” Hebrews 12:1-3 (NLT)

Altitude Jr. – Pre-K and Toddlers

Main Point: I Will Tell Others About God And Jesus!

Bible Lesson: The Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20, Mark 16:19-20, Acts 1:6-11)

Family activity – Tell It

Materials Needed:  Phone

1. Have your children pick someone to call and tell about God and Jesus.

2. Before making the call, have your children practice telling about God and Jesus by saying, “Jesus Loves You!”

3. After the call, say, “When you told _________ (insert name of person called) ‘Jesus loves you,’ you were telling him or her about God and Jesus. We should take time each day to tell others about God and Jesus.”

This Week in NewLife Kids

Altitude – Elementary

Main Point:  As A Follower Of Christ, I Will Work For Peace!

Bible Story:  Paul intercedes for Onesimus - The book of Philemon.

**Bible Verse: “God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.”  Matthew 5:9 (NLT)

Family activity

Have two members of the family go to different parts of the house with paper and a pencil. Then have one person be the Mediator. Person A will draw a shape on the paper while the Mediator watches. The Mediator will go to Person B and describe from memory the shape that A drew. Person B will then follow the Mediator’s instructions to try to draw Person A’s shape as closely as possible. After Person B draws Person A’s shape, Person B will draw his or her own shape. Then the Mediator will go back to Person A and describe from memory what Person B just drew. Continue for as many rounds as you want, then come together and compare papers. See who can be the best Mediator by describing the shapes’ size and placement on the page so that the papers make the closest match.

Then discuss the following with your family. Communication is very important to keeping the peace. As followers of God, we are to do our best to keep the peace. One of the best ways we can do that is to help people communicate. Just like the mediator in our game, we need to help people to communicate in a way that they can see what the other person is saying and prevent conflict from breaking out.

Altitude Jr. – Pre-K and Toddlers

Main Point: I Will Do My Best!

2. Say the following to your children as they are building: “Solomon did his best when he built the Temple. He got the best workers and materials. Just like Solomon did his best, you should also do your best in the things you do.”

3. When the tower is complete, ask your children to tell you some ways they can do their best.

Examples include: being kind to people, obeying parents and teachers, helping out around the house, and not quitting when things get hard.

This Week in NewLife Kids

Altitude – Elementary

Main Point:  As A Follower Of Christ, I Will Choose What Is Good!

Bible Story:  Jesus teaches about purity.  (Matthew 5:8)

**Bible Verse:  “God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.”  Matthew 5:8 (NLT)

Family activity

Gather some 100% pure juice that your children love to drink and some other liquid and powdered ingredients that you can spare. Examples: coffee grounds, tea leaves or grounds, powdered drink mix, pepper, salt, powdered herbs, milk, salsa, marinara sauce, jelly or preserves, syrup, tabasco sauce. Have the entire family taste the pure juice. Tell them that this juice is pure and delicious just like it is, but what if we start adding things to it? Then, in a clear glass have family members start adding the other ingredients to the juice until it is a gross and disgusting mixture.

Tell your family that just like this drink was tastier and better for you when it was pure, our lives will be better when we are pure. We can be pure by making sure that we don’t mix into our lives bad things that God doesn’t want us to do and that we do mix in the good things that God does want us to do.

Some of the good ingredients that God wants us to mix in our lives every day are praying and reading the Bible. God also wants us to worship Him at church every week and share about Him to our friends. These actions help us to be pure and hear from God about other things that He wants us to do. Any activity that would interfere with us doing these things every day, is something we need to avoid or do at a time when it won’t stop us from doing these things.

Talk with your family about ways that you can all help each other to keep your lives pure by choosing to do what God wants and not letting anything interfere with praying and reading the Bible every day, and going to church each week.

Altitude Jr. – Pre-K and Toddlers

Main Point: I Will Do What Is Right!

Bible Lesson: David Spares Saul’s Life (1 Samuel 26)

**Bible Verse: “Do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight, so all will go well with you.” Deuteronomy 6:18a (NLT)

Family activity – Right Rules

Materials needed – board game

1. Ask your children to play a board game with you.

Say: Doing what is right means we follow God’s rules.

2. Explain the rules before you play the game.

3. At the end of the game, say: When we follow the rules of the game, the game is better. When we follow God’s rules that is doing what is right. Remember to do what is right!

Leadership Trait:

Good Choices - Great leaders always chose to do what is right.

This Week in NewLife Kids

Altitude – Elementary

Main Point:  As A Follower Of Christ, I Will Show Mercy To Others!

Bible Story:  Jesus forgives as adulterous woman.  (John 8:1-11)

**Bible Verse:  “God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”  Matthew 5:7 (NLT)

Family activity

Challenge your children to play a game with you that you should be able to do fairly easily but they will almost surely fail. Examples are: a standing jump from one line to another, jumping up and touching something high up, or (for younger children) balancing something on one finger. Keep showing them mercy by giving them another chance, and after that, either by adjusting the challenge so that it is easier for them to do or assisting them with the challenge. For the standing jump you could move the lines closer or pull/lift your child by the hands to help him or her jump farther. For the jumping challenge you could lower the object you are jumping for or lift your child to help him or her jump higher. For the balancing challenge you could allow your child to use his or her flat hand to balance the item instead of just one finger.

After the challenge ask your children how they would have felt if you would have yelled at them or been mean to them for failing the challenge. Ask them if they were glad that you helped them and gave them a second chance instead of yelling and being mean to them. Point out to your children that they failed the challenge according to the rules, but that you treated them with mercy instead of treating them harshly. According to God’s rules none of us can go to Heaven because we all have failed to follow God’s rules, but God showed us mercy through Jesus, even though we didn’t deserve it. Jesus wants us to be merciful to others, like He was merciful to us. When people make mistakes or hurt us, we shouldn’t treat them harshly, but show them mercy.

Altitude Jr. – Pre-K and Toddlers

Main Point: I Will Help Others!

Bible Lesson: Aaron and Hur help Moses - Exodus 17:8-13

**Bible Verse: “We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.”   Romans 15:2 (NLT)

 Family activity -  Helping Hands

Materials Needed - Paper, Crayons, Markers

1. Trace your child’s hand on a piece of paper.

2. Write H-E-L-P on the fingers.

3. Write the name of one person to help and a way to help that person on the palm of the hand.

4. Hang this on the fridge and help the person whose name you wrote on the paper this week.

Say: When we see a need, you should step in and help. Keep looking for ways to help others each day.

Leadership Trait:

Helpfulness - Great leaders seek out ways to help others.

This Week in NewLife Kids

Altitude – Elementary

Main Point: As A Follower Of Christ, I Will Stand Up For What Is Right!

Bible Story:  Jesus cleanses the Temple (Matthew 21:12-17)

**Bible Verse:  “God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.” Matthew 5:6 (NLT)

 Family activity

Have a “That’s Not Fair” Art Fair with your family. Have each family member make an art project to show a situation that he or she thinks is unfair. It must be a situation that is unfair for someone else, not for yourself. The art project itself could be anything. It could be a photo-collage, a painting, a sculpture, a movie, or any other type of art project. Have family members help each other come up with ways to stand up for those people and help the situation. For example, if another kid is being made fun of at school, your child could be a friend to the kid being teased, notify the teachers, tell the other kids to stop, and pray for all the people affected.

It is one thing to stand up and say something is not fair when it affects us, but something else to stand up when something is unfair that affects other people. Even if we can’t do anything else, we can always be a friend to people in bad situations and show God’s love to them.

Altitude Jr. – Pre-K and Toddlers

Main Point:  I Will Obey God’s Rules!

Bible Lesson:  Moses and the Ten Commandments - Exodus 19-20, 24:12

**Bible Verse:  “If you obey my decrees and my regulations, you will find life through them. I am the Lord.” Leviticus 18:5 (NLT)

Family activity – House Rules

Materials needed – paper, markers, stickers and other decorations

1. Make a list of family rules.

2. If you already have rules, simply write them down on paper.

3. Decorate the paper and hang it up where everyone can see the rules.

Say: These are our house rules. It’s important for you to obey both our house rules and God’s rules. When you obey the rules, things will be better in your life!

*Rule suggestions: Obey, be kind, share your things, clean up your mess.

Leadership Trait:

Obedience - Great leaders obey God’s rules to have the best life possible.

This Week In NewLife Kids

Altitude – Elementary
Main Point:  As A Follower Of Christ, I Will Be Humble!

Bible Story:       John The Baptist shows humility.  (Mark 1:7, John 3:22-31)

**Bible Verse:  “God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.”  Matthew 5:5 (NLT)

Family activity

Play limbo together as a family. As you play, talk about how you have to lower your body under the bar to be good at limbo and you have to lower your attitude about yourself to be humble and help others. Also talk about how you have to bend backward to go under the limbo bar. Talk about the phrase “bend over backward” to help someone. It means that we will do anything we can to help.

When we are humble and serving others as God wants us to, we will bend over backward to help them. Just like getting under the limbo bar was not always easy, serving others can be difficult as well. But if we remain humble, we will be able to put their needs above ours and serve them

Altitude Jr. – Pre-K and Toddlers

Main Point:  God Has Big Plans For Me

Bible Story:  Moses and the Burning Bush (Exodus 3)

** Bible Verse:  “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.”  Proverbs 3:5  (NLT)

2. Write the Main Point “God Has Big Plans For Me!” on the paper.

3. Hang the drawing up on the fridge.

Say: God has big plans for you now, and when you grow up.

Leadership Trait:

Confidence - Great leaders are confident that God has big plans for them now and in the future.

This Week in NewLife Kids

Altitude – Elementary

Main Point:  As a Follower of Christ, I will look to God for comfort

Bible Story:  Jesus Raises Lazarus (John 11)

** Bible Verse:  “God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”  Matthew 5:4 (NLT)

Family activity

Take a tour of comfort through your home. Have each member of the family take the rest of the family to his or her place in the home that is the most comfortable to him or her. For one family member it might be where she works out on the treadmill because she can forget about other worries. For one family member it might be in a big chair with a good book. For another family member it might be taking a nap on the couch. For another it might be sitting in the kitchen eating a favorite snack. Remind your family that when we think about things and activities that give us comfort, we should remember that we can find comfort from God by praying to Him in difficult times. Just like we go to a favorite spot or a favorite activity for comfort, we can go to God for comfort by praying to Him and reading the Bible

Altitude Jr. – Pre-K and Toddlers

Main Point:  God Will Take Care of Me

Bible Story:  Sermon on the Mount  (Matthew 6:25-34)

** Bible Verse:  “Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything.  Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done.”  Philippians 4:6 (NLT)

Family activity - Flower And Bird Collage

Materials needed – paper, markers, glue, and magazines

1. Find pictures of birds and flowers in magazines (or take the pictures of them yourself with a camera).

2. Make a collage with the pictures.

3. Write the Main Point “God Will Take Care Of Me!” on the collage and hang it up.

Say: Jesus told the people He was teaching that God takes care of the birds and flowers. He said that because God takes care of them, we can know that He will take even better care of us. Remember that God will take care of us when you see this collage!

Leadership Trait:

Peace - Great leaders have peace because they trust that God will take care of them.

Family Activity

Set up to play a game but hide one key element that you can’t do without. Suggestions are: Soccer without the soccer ball, a board game without the board, baseball without the bat, or a card game with most of the cards missing. When you go to play the game, reveal that the needed element for the game is missing and have the entire family look for it. Give clues if needed until the missing element is found. Then tell your family that, just as you needed what was missing to get the most out of the game, we need Jesus to live life to the fullest.
