Parents here is what we learned in NewLife Kids last Sunday.
Lesson Goal: The children learned that Christmas is a time for joy and the good news of Jesus' birth should be shared with other people.
Main Point: I Can Have Joy and Share It With Others!
Bible Story: Christmas through the eyes of the shepherds (Luke 2:8-20)
Bible Verse: "Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness; they will sing with joy about your righteousness." (Psalm 145:7 NLT).
Please don't forget to have your child/ren continue their Bible Reading Plan. This Week we are reading Luke 2. Continue to talk about the Christmas Story with your kids and help them see the importance of living a life of joy so that you can share with others.

The Christmas Story
For this month's Bible reading we're going to take a break from Mark and focus in on Luke and his telling of the Christmas Story!
Luke Chapter 1 is on the schedule for this week. In this passage we'll learn how Mary was told she would be giving birth to the Son of God, and we'll also learn her reaction. We encourage you to read and discuss it with your children.
Together you may want to:
---Try to see things from Mary's point of view. We know the outcome this story, but at the time Mary did not. God came and interrupted Mary and Joseph's life in a way that was probably pretty scary!
Think about the fact that the punnishment for becoming pregnant before marriage could have been death for Mary. Yet despite this, her reaction to God's plan was, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” (v. 38)
She agreed and submitted without knowing what would happen to her! She trusted God and had courage! And the result of this was the beginning of the beautiful and wonderful story of Jesus' life on earth and His sacrifice for our salvation. Wow!
---Take some time to discuss with your children about whether your lives and actions reflect this kind of trust in God and His plan. When we trust and follow God, great things will happen! And we can take courage in knowing that we are not alone; God is always with us!
---Memorize this week's memory verse. It will help us when the unknown scares us, and the kids will get extra tickets for reciting it for us Sunday!
This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid
or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever
you go. -Joshua 1:9, NLT
The kids are doing so well with their weekly readings; keep up the good work! Parents - remember that this is not something they have to do on their own - read these together!
Have a great week, and we can't wait to see you Sunday!!!

Continue Reading the Book of Mark
Just a reminder to continue reading the Book of Mark with your child. This week we are reading Chapters 7 and 8. Take time to discuss what you are reading with your child. During your reading talk about why the Pharisees, the teachers of the law in those days, were against Jesus and his disciples. They were constantly trying to find fault with everything that they did to use against them. Also bring out in chapter 8 how Jesus is letting his friends know of his soon coming death. Use this time together to discuss what Jesus means to you.

Family Activities
Dojo - Elementary
Respect Everyone
The Bible is very clear on the subject of respect. It tells you in 1 Peter to respect everyone. That means to even respect those you might not like very much! The Bible tells children to respect their parents too. Describe a time to your child when you did not show your parents respect. Explain to them the consequences and the trouble it caused. Ask them to tell you of a time when they didn’t show someone respect. What happened? Make a list together of ways your child can show the people in their life respect, even the ones who may not show them respect in return!

I Will Take Care Of My Body!
Last Sunday we learned that we can take care of our bodies. One of the ways we can do this is by eating healthy foods. This is important because God made us and gave us our bodies. Pick one thing to eliminate from your diet this week. You could give up candy, dessert, or soda. Work together as a family to stay away from that food item all week! Find some healthy alternatives you could enjoy together as a family instead. Maybe instead of eating dessert, your family could go on an after dinner walk together. Whatever you choose to do together, remember to emphasize the importance of taking care of the bodies God gave us!
